I love a good mountain adventure town and Golden BC Canada is one of my favourites! Summer in Golden is an outdoor adventure seeker's paradise. There are so many activities to choose from its hard to capture them all. But I am willing to give it a go. There is downhill biking at Kicking Horse Resort and at Mount 7, over 185km of mountain bike trails, and some of the best white water rafting in Canada. There is paddling, fishing, and hiking. Or take your adventure to the skies with birding, hang-gliding, and paragliding. Golden has Canada's highest restaurant, and highest suspensions bridges. There are artisans, festivals, and award-winning eateries. There are even 6 national parks all accessible in under 2-hours. For wildlife lovers, there is the world's largest Grizzly Bear Sanctuary and the Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre. And that just scratches the surface of all the adventures to be had. There is a lifetime of adventures to be had in Golden British Columbia. In fact, this is one of the mountain towns that has me searching real estate listings every time we leave. Basically, Golden Rules.

Some of the best mountain biking in Canada is in Golden BC. There is over 185km of trails of singletrack cross-country with trails to suit all experience levels. The three main cross-country mountain biking areas are Mountain Shadows, Moonrakers, and the CBT Mainline Network. We decided to check out the Moonraker Trails. With a mixture of easy and intermediate fast and flowy trails this sounded like a great starting point as it was only our second day on our bikes this year. Plus, I am a sucker for mountain lakes and a great view.

During the summer months Kicking Horse Mountain Resort becomes a massive bike park. With over 50km of trails and 31 runs to pick from there is a wide variety of easy, intermediate, and advanced trails to choose from. There are over 120 drops and jumps and wooden features as well. Although there is a newly built 2km climb, my favourite way to get to the top of the mountain is with the gondola. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is home to Boo, the Grizzly bear that lives in the sanctuary.

Adventure seekers and adrenaline junkies will love exploring this attraction. Golden Skybridge is another place to test your nerves. As it is home to two of Canada's highest suspension bridges. The highest bridge in Canada spans 150m across an expansive canyon 130m above the canyon floor whereas the next one is 140m and 80m high. Dare devils will love whipping across the canyon on the 305m zipline or testing their nerves of steal on the Giant Canyon Swing. Golden Skybridge has a mountain coaster, axe throwing, ropes courses and so much more. It is a fun place to spend the day.

The Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge is the longest freestanding timber frame bridge in all of Canada. The bridge is in the heart of Golden's downtown at Spirit Square and connects with the Rotary Trail that runs along the river and throughout the town.

I always love walking around downtown Golden to see what is new and to enjoy the outdoor, adventure loving yet laid-back culture of the town. Wandering downtown is a great way to relax after a day’s worth of adventure seeking. I like discovering local artisans, independently owned shops, and outdoor adventure stores. There are also plenty of options for refuelling and rehydrating at several excellent restaurants. Most of which have patio for diners to enjoy the fresh mountain air and views.

Whitetooth Brewing Co. in Golden BC Canada specializes in small batch Belgian and west coast style craft beers. They have a massive outdoor patio with views of Whitetooth Mountain home of the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. The patio is dog friendly. Whitetooth has a great selection of craft beers to try. Although I was sceptical of the Jambrosia Red Raspberry Wheat beer at first, it very quickly became one of my favourites. It was the refreshing, hot summer day on a patio craft beer that I was looking for.

A beautiful evening view of the Kicking Horse River and mountains from the Rotary Trail as it runs alongside the Golden Municipal Campground. For those that love watching and photographing trains this is an excellent location.
