Natural Rocky Mountain Hot Springs in Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park

After hiking the short but steep trail to Lakit Lookout the day before, Lussier Hot Springs felt like the perfect recovery stop. The trail doesn’t take long, but it makes you work and you can definitely feel it in your legs. I expected to feel a bit stiff afterward, yet a long soak in the steaming mineral pools worked pure magic. By the next morning, my legs felt completely fresh.

Lussier Hot Springs is right near the entrance to Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park, tucked between Canal Flats and the surrounding mountains. The pools are completely natural and built from smooth stones. They are free to visit, open year round, and very easy to reach with a short walk down a well-maintained path. The upper pools are wonderfully hot, while the ones closer to the river are comfortably warm. Some people go all in and plunge into the icy river between soaks. I only dipped a toe in, which clearly proves how very tough I am.

There isn’t much in the way of facilities, and the forestry road can be a bit of an adventure on its own, but it’s worth the trip when you sink into the warm pools with the river rushing beside you. The area is small and popular, so arriving early helps make the most of your visit.

A helpful map shows Whiteswan Lake, Alces Lake, trails, campgrounds, and the hot springs. It gives visitors a quick overview before heading down.

A short and clear gravel path winds 20m downhill through the trees. It’s short, steady, and easy to follow, with glimpses of the river along the way.

From the lower pools you can look out over the cold and fast moving Lussier River. Some visitors plunge right in before returning to the heat.
