Portage and Main in Winnipeg is one of Canada’s most famous intersections as it holds the record as being the coldest and windiest intersection in Canada. This seemed to be true the day that we were there, so I recommend wearing a warm coat. The bank of Montreal Building is one of the districts many heritage structures. A few interesting facts, there is no ground level pedestrian crossing at Portage and Main, all of the crosswalks are under ground. Portage and Main is also a property on the Canadian version of Monopoly.

The Brasserie Nonsuch Brewing Company is a very popular craft brewery in the Exchange District in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As we learnt it can be hard to get a table if you walk in after work on a Friday evening, so it is a good idea to make reservations.

Patent 5 is a new craft distillery located in Winnipeg's historic Exchange District that sources their grains from across the province. An elegant oak bar salvaged from St. Regis Hotel has been beautiful restored and fits perfectly in the historic warehouse.

Winnipeg is birthplace of the Métis nation and the heart of the Métis Homeland. Louis Riel was a Métis leader, the founder of the province of Manitoba and a hero to his people. He went on to lead the North-West Resistance against the Canadian Government's encroachment on Métis lands and was ultimately hanged for treason. Now he is often viewed in much kinder light and is seen as a defender of his people and their culture.

We originally stopped to take a picture of this building because we liked the way the sunlight caught the Canadian flag waving in the wind. It turns out that this building is actually Winnipeg's original skyscraper. Built in 1904 it was originally the Union Bank Tower. Today it is home to Red River College’s culinary arts program.
