Perched high on a hill just outside the Jasper National Park East Gates in Alberta, Overlander Mountain Lodge has a spectacular view of the Athabasca Valley in Jasper National Park. Overlander makes a great base for exploring both Jasper National Park and the Hinton area. However, there is no reason to leave the lodge as it is a perfect weekend getaway destination all on its own. With fantastic mountain views, a great restaurant, and over 25 km of hiking trails there are plenty of activities to keep guests entertained all weekend. For instance, one trail leads to Folding Mountain Brewery which makes for a great lunch destination. Whereas another trail leads Brule Lake and the famous Brule sand dunes. The Overlander Mountain Lodge is a peaceful location that is also perfectly suited to relaxation and reading a good book. Since the lodge faces west and has sweeping views of Jasper National Park it is an ideal location for catching a perfect Canadian Rocky Mountain sunset.
Overlander Mountain Lodge has an excellent location. The main lodge has 31 rooms, the Stone Mountain Restaurant, and the Fireside Lounge. Its location is perfect built on top of a hill that looks out across the valley into Jasper National Park. The fireside lounge in the main building at Overlander Mountain Lodge is a cozy place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Staff build a fire every day for guests to enjoy. After enjoying dinner at Stone Peak Restaurant, we decided to sit and enjoy the fire for awhile. Other restaurant guests did the same and it wasn't long before we made new friends and ended up talking the night away.

We chose a mountain view room in the main lodge for our weekend Rocky Mountain adventure. The Mountain View rooms have a large balcony overlooking the Athabasca Valley in Jasper National Park. The view is incredible. Since the mountain view rooms face west and look out across the valley the balconies are the perfect place for spectacular sunsets.

Overlander Mountain Lodge's property is a nice place to walk around. In addition to the rooms in the main lodge, Overlander also has several chalets and heritage cabins to choose from.

A secondary building known as Miette has several other rooms to pick from. These rooms also have gas fireplaces and have property views. There are just mere steps from the main lodge and its spectacular mountain views.

Jasper National Park is a favourite destination for this Canadian Adventure Seeker. Jasper East, the area just outside of the park and Jasper National Park itself are fantastic outdoor playgrounds. Maybe next year I will check out the view from the top of the mountain behind me. I might have to train for that one though, it looks challenging, but I bet the view will be worth it.
