There are so many beautiful and interesting oddities to explore in scenic Dildo, South Dildo and Old Shop Newfoundland Canada. I was fortunate to spend a brief period of time in September exploring the rural communities near Trinity Bay and met some lovely locals, who lovingly refer to themselves as Dildodians.
Would it even be a trip to Dildo without stopping by for a visit and photo opportunity with local icon and town Mascot Captain Dildo? You can find the captain outside of the Dildo Dory Grill. Additionally, mark your calendars, because each Summer the town hosts an annual festival called Dildo Days with many fun activities for kids and adults alike. A large Hollywood style Dildo sign was erected in the hills overlying the cove when celebrity talk show host Jimmy Kimmel visited the rural NL community a few years ago.
On a serious note, the town of Dildo and surrounding communities are places of historical significance in the province. Dildo island is located a few kilometres offshore and it was home to the worlds first cod fish hatchery in 1889. Furthermore, archeological evidence shows that it was home to four Indigenous groups, including the Beothuk, which I have been actively busy learning more about.
During my short stay I stopped into the Dildo Brewery and Museum where I indulged in a large plateful of fully loaded chicken nachos and a Session IPA brewed on site. Both the craft beer, food, staff and stunning ocean views of Trinity Bay were top notch. Be sure to relax on the outdoor seaside patio with a cold beverage on a warm day and take in the island sunset over Dildo Cove.
Down the road in scenic Old Shop I found a collection of free outdoor community libraries where you can sit by the sea, relax with a book of your choice and listen to the sounds of nature and the North Atlantic Ocean. Additionally, in South Dildo be sure to check out the Blue Whale Lounge and Eatery and Whaler’s Wharf vacation rental efficiency units. The units are exceptionally clean, cozy and private with a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole literally on site. Enjoy morning coffee or tea while listening to the soothing sounds of nature and running water. In conclusion, I LOVE DILDO!!!

September was such a beautiful month in Newfoundland this year! I spent lots of time walking around and enjoying the stunning ocean vistas and abundance of island wildflowers in the areas surrounding local beaches.
Old Shop Newfoundland and Labrador is located on the shores of Trinity bay and is a charming area for photographers who enjoy scenic ocean views and local flora and fauna.
Dogberry trees are also called Showy Mountain Ash and are a common tree sighting around the island. In fact, a lot of residents have them growing on their personal properties as it is favoured for its ornamental bright orange berries.
The bright orange berries on dogberry trees in NL often remain on the tree over the Winter season. The native berries are edible to humans but are very bitter, not very tasty and rich in tanin. I personally prefer the look of these berries over...

Im no beer expert, but I did really enjoy the Session IPA at Dildo Brewing Co. NL. With an ABV: 4.3 % it wasn’t too strong or heavy, but with all the citrous hoppy goodness that I love in an IPA.

Sunsets over the salty North Atlantic Ocean are one of my luxuries of life in Newfoundland Canada. It’s an East Coast island lifestyle and I couldn’t love it any more.

Comedy In Newfoundland and Labrador is something that makes Newfoundlanders unique. We love to laugh! I laughed out loud when I spotted this cheeky T-shirt hanging in a local gift store in Dildo Cove.
