The 13 km long Sooke Hills Wilderness Trail is located in Sooke Hills Wilderness Regional Park, which is the largest park in the Capital Region District around Victoria, BC. The hard-packed crushed stone dust pathway traverses the green space, which acts as a buffer to the Greater Victoria Water Supply Catchment, and includes the 471 m tall Mount Braden. The Sooke Hills Wilderness Trail traverses the territory of the Malahat First Nation, and it is also part of the Trans Canada Trail, so we explored it as part of our cross-Canada #Hike4Birds. Ultimately, the Sooke Hills Wilderness Trail ended up being one of our favourite sections of the Trans Canada Trail in BC. In particular, highlights for us included the breathtaking views over the Olympic Peninsula, feeling completely immersed in the lush, temperate rainforest, spotting a Barred Owl on the trail, enjoying the soothing sounds of flowing rivers, and breathing in the fresh mountain air. This trail is a true sanctuary for those seeking solace and adventure in the great outdoors. In conclusion, whether you're a seasoned hiker or a novice explorer, the Sooke Wilderness Trail promises an unforgettable experience on the Trans Canada Trail.
