Quidi Vidi Lake Trail is a scenic, wheelchair-accessible 3.8 km walking loop path that offers visitors and locals alike a peaceful escape right in the heart of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Circling the picturesque Quidi Vidi Lake, this level trail offers stunning scenery and an abundance of wildlife and waterfowl that call the lake home year-round. Beautiful at any time of year, the fall colours added an extra pop during our visit in late autumn.

The trail is perfect for leisurely walks, jogging, or bird watching, offering frequent opportunities to spot gulls, ducks, raptors, and other bird species on and around the lake. As such, it has been listed as an Important Bird Area, and it is one of our favourite birding spots within the city of St. John's, NL. In addition to hiking and bird watching, the north end of the trail features a fenced outdoor dog park and skateboard park, making it suitable for visitors of all ages. Other trail highlights include small beaches, cultural landmarks, and frequent places to enjoy a picnic. Well-placed benches also provide excellent views of the lake along the length of the trail. In addition, during the summer months, the lake becomes a hub of activity as rowers prepare for the Royal St. John’s Regatta, North America’s oldest annual sporting event, held here every August since 1826.

As such, whether you’re a nature enthusiast, bird watcher, history lover, or outdoor adventurer, the Quidi Vidi Lake Trail offers a perfect mix of urban accessibility and natural beauty. Conveniently, the Trail is accessible from multiple points along the loop, with three convenient parking lots on the north side along The Boulevard.
