Taking an O'Brien's Bird and Whale Tour to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve in Bay Bulls was a major highlight for us during our hike across Newfoundland, Canada. However, nothing prepared us for what it feels like to be up close and personal with 260,000 pairs of Atlantic Puffins, 620,000 pairs of Leach's Storm-petrels, as well as tens of thousands of the Common Murres, and a significant population of Black-legged Kittiwakes. Amazingly, hundreds of thousands of seabirds filled the sky above, crowded the rocky cliffs that stood a few meters beyond the boat's railings, and face-planted in the waves lapping the vessel's sides. To add to the magic, on the return journey a Minke whale surfaced just off the port side of the boat!
