Buffalo Lake is a large body of water in central Alberta, near the town of Stettler. Each year, on Family Day weekend, Destination Stettler hosts the Big Jack Classic Ice Fishing Derby. A family friendly, Northern Pike derby with over $10,000 in cash and prizes to be won!
With events throughout the weekend, this is more than just a fishing tournament. The community hall in Rochon Sands is a great meeting place with drinks, snacks and washrooms available all weekend. As well, they put on a fantastic spaghetti supper Saturday night, with breakfast available at the hall on Sunday morning as well. Not only that, but after the tournament wraps up on Sunday evening, there is a great banquet put on with live music, dinner tickets, prizes, as well as a bar area. Bring the kids, they'll have a blast dancing the night away.

A small number of private accommodations can be found in Rochon Sands during the winter months, but a large number of options are available in the nearby town of Stettler if you're traveling into the area.

But additionally, this is also where the spaghetti supper and banquet take place as well.

It was a lovely winter day in Alberta for the family day weekend. Between the warm sun beaming down, and the nice cozy warm hut, we were able to enjoy some time outside on the ice.

There were many little ice fishing villages around Buffalo Lake during the Big Jack Classic. This little pop up community was located near Rochon Sands Marina, where the huge pike statue can be found.
