One of the best in my humble opinion! Although right now there is controversy over the closing of the third floor and the cost of the Royal BC Museum's proposed redevelopment, that could stretch from 2023 until 2029 with a capital cost between $500 million and $1 billion. Probably, more like $1 billion by the time it is finished as that is the way of any reno in my experience. The changes to be made are for seismic risks, asbestos removal, the need for better accessibility and to update the exhibits for modernization. All good things, it's just too bad it is going to take 5 years (and most likely then some) to complete.   More ...

Be prepared to be engaged and inspired! The Royal British Columbia Museum (RBCM) presents - Wildlife Photographer of the Year. This exhibit at the RBCM in Victoria, British Columbia.is a travelling exhibit from London's Natural History Museum.

This is an annual favorite, now in its 58th year, featuring a selection of photojournalism from award winning photographers from around the world. It even features a selection of award-wining photography from youth 18 and under. It is a visual educational experience for the whole family.

The photos are presented in a darkened gallery in a huge backlit display. The landscapes shimmer, a tiger leaps from one photo, a shark swims into the darkness in another. Other photos tell the story of our increasingly populated planet, and the challenges animals and people face in an ever-changing world increasingly affected by climate change and pollution. How amongst it all we still manage to hang on and survive, for now.

As exciting as the photos are the captions explaining the technology used in capturing the shot and the story behind each photo is just as interesting. Wildlife photography is not easy, and patience is key. The innovation and fortitude of the photographers in capturing these amazing shots is astonishing.

This exhibit opens December 16, 2022, and runs until April 16, 2023, admission to the exhibit is part of the regular admission price of the museum, $5.00 for all ages for the day. The price will increase in the new year to $18 for adults and $11 for seniors and youth. The reduced prices reflect that some of the regular exhibits are closed now due to renovations. TICKETS may be purchased either online or at the museum.

The museum also has an IMAX theatre available at a separate ticket price, cafe, and two gift shops accessible on the main floor. Information on IMAX shows may be found here: https://imaxvictoria.com/

Beyond Van Gogh The Immersive Experience is coming to Victoria, British Columbia in November!

Imagine an art gallery of Vincent Van Gogh's greatest works dropped onto a screen the size of an IMAX, then add a symphonic score -- now you have a post-impressionist virtual reality. The floor changes as you walk through this 30K square foot gallery, the images on the walls slide both horizontally and vertically as the scene in the room changes, moving from one canvas to the next. You are seemingly shrunk in size as you walk through and become one with the paintings. There are 300 of Van Gogh's artworks, including such favorites as "The Starry Night", "Sunflowers" and "Cafe Terrace at Night". Comprised of over 4 billion content pixels this Canadian technology and high-resolution portrayal of Van Gogh's works provides visitors with the opportunity to experience art from a new perspective, from that inside a painting.

Tickets are available online from the website: https://vangoghvictoria.com
    Adult Basic timed entry: $31.99
    Student/Senior: $28.99
    Child $23.99:
Also available are various group, VIP and multi-day ticket options also available from the website.

This time-entry exhibit takes about approximately one hour to complete and therefore, the last admission to the gallery for the day is at 7PM.
