Event Description:
For four days each February nature lovers, bird watchers, and citizen scientists from all over the world come together to watch, count, and report as many birds as they can find. The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a great way to stay connected with nature during the cold winter months, and it makes a huge contribution to wild bird conservation in Canada.

The project was launched in 1998 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society, and it became the first Citizen Science project to collect data on wild birds and display results in near real time. In 2009 the project expanded to include Canada, and in 2013 it went global, to help scientists monitor global populations of wild birds.

Participating is free, easy, and fun and can be done anywhere you find birds. Watch birds for 15 minutes or more between February 17-20, 2023, identify all the birds you see or hear, and report your sightings using the free Merlin Bird ID App, eBird, or your computer.
