Nestled in the heart of Clearwater County and Alberta's beautiful David Thompson Country, Fish Lake Recreation Area, also known as Shunda Lake, is a favourite destination for camping, fishing, paddling, and enjoying a relaxing day outdoors. Located just minutes west of Nordegg, this scenic recreation area offers mountain views, lakeside recreation, and easy access from the David Thompson Highway.

One of the highlights of our visit was exploring the spacious day-use area. With numerous picnic tables, a covered pavilion, and several lakeside spots to sit and enjoy the scenery, there is plenty of room whether you're gathering with family or looking for a quieter place to relax by the water.

The recreation area also features a campground, a dock, a small boat launch, and a network of walking trails that wind through the surrounding forest.

As we explored the shoreline and trails, we discovered that Fish Lake offers much more than a simple roadside stop. From peaceful forest walks to scenic lake views and the small dam located at the end of the lake, there are plenty of reasons to spend a few extra hours here. Whether you're planning a picnic, launching a canoe or kayak, spending a weekend camping, or simply exploring the Nordegg area, Fish Lake Recreation Area is a great place to experience the natural beauty of David Thompson Country.
