Chapel Arm to Little Ridge return was the route for the first Paddle Newfoundland and Labardor club paddle of 2025. The town of Chapel Arm is located on the Avalon Peninsula in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is located on Trinity Bay approximaterly an hour, or 100 km, west of St. John’s.
Over 20 sea kayakers departed from the beach in Chapel Arm and headed toward Little Ridge which was our planned lunch stop. Along the way we saw waterfalls, sea arches and wildlife. Litte Ridge was once a community, but is now resettled. It is accessible by boat or on foot by ATV track. The 1921 census shows 9 households and 39 individuals were dwelling there at that time. It is a lovely stop with a beach and grassy expanses on which to enjoy lunch and relax, which we did before crossing the bay and heading back to Chapel Arm. The paddling distance was 12.7 km return according to my Garmin watch and took approximately 3 hours, not counting the lunch stop. There are many sheltered places to paddle in this area that provide a great day out.
For paddlers visiting the province, connecting with Paddle Newfoundland and Labrador is an excellent way to meet with paddle partners and get tips and recommendations on locations, winds and exciting features that you might like to see. It is a very inclusive paddling community!

Sea arches are a fantastic feature to find when kayaking in Newfoundland. There is always some thrilling and fun about passing through them when sea conditions permit.

Many parts of Newfoundland are cliffy. Trip planning for a paddle should take into account whether there will be any places to take your kayak out of the water, if needed.

Water droplets on my phone case make an interesting effect. A waterproof phone case is an essential item when kayaking. The Newfoundland waters are unlikely to be kind to your phone.
