Iceberg Viewing at Cape St. Francis Newfoundland and Labrador Canada
Iceberg Viewing at Cape St. Francis Newfoundland and Labrador Canada has been a popular activity on the east coast this week. An ancient glacial iceberg has grounded near the Cape attracting photographers and adventure seekers from around the world. Located on the Avalon Peninsula of NL, Cape St. Francis headland is the outer extremity marking the boundary of Conception Bay. Additionally, the rugged Cape serves as the southern extremity of the Labrador Sea.
The majority of icebergs in Newfoundland Canada float down from Greenland while the rest come from the Arctic. From here the bergs travel south via iceberg alley until they melt in the warmer waters. The best times for viewing icebergs in NL is late Spring through early Summer. Tour companies generally open up for the season in May as April often brings too much pack sea ice for the tour boats to operate.
