The Sunflower Festival in Richmond BC isn't just about sunflowers. The 20 acres also includes many colours and varieties of dahlias.
From the parking lot, a miniature train or wagon takes visitors out to the fields where roomy paths wind through sunflowers of all sizes and fields of dahlias. A live band was playing with many chairs and umbrellas for shade, as well as bales of hay to sit on.
I plan on returning next season as it was just a delight. It would be a wonderful way to spend a family day.
Plenty of room in the parking lot when we arrived in the morning. A welcoming entrance, a bridge, a lake, and then on to the transportation to the fields of flowers.
This pond with reflections was a lovely transition from parking lot to the fields beyond. Music with a country vibe was playing as we walked to find the miniature train.
What child (or adult) doesn't love a train ride. A short walk from the parking lot brings you to this train station. An alternative is to ride to the fields on a wagon.
After walking among the rows of dahlias, in the distance are food vendors and seating. A live band is playing and the music drifts into awareness as you stroll along.
The abundance of flowers was really overwhelming. I wanted to take pictures and more pictures. They were lovely and the backdrop of a clear blue sky made it even more photo worthy.
Live music certainly adds to an event. There were many chairs, umbrellas for shade, and bales of hay for additional seating. Grab a cup of coffee or something to eat, and then enjoy some music.
Walking paths are wide and easy to navigate. Families with children, strollers, and grandparents had plenty of room to walk together. Here I am dwarfed by giant sunflowers. There are many varieties of sunflowers here.
In the distance you will see the resident dinosaurs. You may even hear their roars before you get close enough to see them. Families were enjoying photos with dinosaurs in the background.
Visitors at the Richmond Sunflower Festival, especially those with children, will make their way to the section with three dinosaurs. These large creatures move and roar intermittently. Quite exciting.
The designers of the 20 acres of sunflowers and dahlias did a wonderful job. Here the section of very tall sunflowers is separated from the dahlias by a field of wildflowers. The fence and wagon wheel add to the ambiance.
