My humpback whale encounter in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, happened last Summer while on Sea Doo (jet ski) on the islands Southern Shore. I LOVE humpback whales and I seem to attract them! While stopped for lunch in a secluded coastal cove a large sea creature was swimming towards us at a fast pace. We weren't sure at first what it was - I was scared it was a shark or an orca. In fact, great white sharks are quite common in the icy waters of the North Atlantic Ocean.
As the marine life swam closer we could see it was a large humpback whale. The majestic creature lifted its head out of the water and sprayed us with salty water from its blowhole as he made eye contact with me. It was one of the most incredible and unforgettable moments of my life! Furthermore, the whale proceeded on to swim under BOTH Sea Doos before sizing us up a little bit more before going on his way!
In conclusion, a whale watching tour is a must do attraction while visiting Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. The Southern Shore offers amazing whale and bird watching opportunities with multiple tours operating out of Bay Bulls. Add it to your East Coast Canada adventure bucketlist.
