Bighorn Sheep in Jasper National Park Alberta Canada

There are a couple of locations on the road from Jasper to Hinton where one might see bighorn sheep. They love to climb on rocky cliffs. Then they come down, cross the busy highway, and get a drink or graze. Despite knowing where to look, animals don't always appear when you are driving by.

Patience has paid off. I've spent a day and a half in the area. I've done a lot of driving. Finally I was at the right spot at the right time.

I did not see any males today. They have the large curled horns. Ewes have small pointed horns. Some of the sheep I saw today looked quite young, perhaps heading into their first winter.
