Langley BC, British Columbia

Langley is a municipality located in the Metro Vancouver (Vancouver Lower Mainland) region of British Columbia, Canada. Langley is an agricultural community with a historic background. To experience the agriculture, history and culture of Langley one must visit the farms, wineries, artists studios, parks and heritage sites in the region.

Langley is central. To the north of Langley is the community of Maple Ridge and the Township of Langley... and to the south is the Canada - USA Border. Travel east from Langley and explore the City of Surrey, Downtown Vancouver and the community of White Rock. Venture west and visit the historic site of Fort Langley situated on the banks of the Fraser and Salmon Rivers.

The mighty Fraser River were once the homes and hunting grounds for the First Nation people of British Columbia, Canada. In the Langley region it was the Coast Salish First Nation people who thrived off the land.

Fort Langley is a Historic Site of Canada located on the Fraser River. The historic fort is a footprint in Canadian history recognizing the arrival of the Europeans to Canada. The fort was established in 1827 and was first operated as a Hudson's Bay Trading Post dealing in furs, canning and farming goods. Fort Langley is considered the birth place of modern day British Columbia by many.

The European settlers started to plant roots in the region in the late 1800s. The region back then, was called "Innes Corners", named after Adam Innes - one of the first to settle in the region. It was not until 1911 the city was renamed "Langley Prairie" therefore becoming part of the Langley Township.

The City of Langley is often referred to as the "Horse Capital of BC" because much of the geography of Langley, especially in the outlying areas, is agricultural tourism, farm lands and horse ranches.

The high number of farms produce a variety of agricultural items like dairy, poultry, cranberries, cheese, milk, grapes, preserves, blueberries, strawberries and farm baked goods. Much of the produce is offered for sale at local farm markets.

There are also many hectares put aside for producing grapes for the local wineries. Every year the local wineries harvest the grapes and produce an assortment of quality wines. The wineries sell their wines, provide wine tasting events and participate in wine tours.

There are many services important to travelers available in Langley. Some of the services include accommodations, restaurants, fine dining, gas stations, banks, grocery stores, big box stores, gift boutiques, car rentals, shopping mall, coffee shops, attractions, internet and transportation services (sky train, airport and bus).

The City of Langley is home to events, cultural venues and some high-end facilities. Some of the more popular venues attracting visitors to the region include Fort Langley (National Historic Site of Canada), museums, a casino, First Nation galleries, art centre, theatres and a wildlife zoo.

Throughout the Langley region there are over 40+ parks and green space areas measuring over 122 hectares (300 acres). Some of the more popular parks and trails include Derby Reach Regional Park, Nicomekl River Flood Plain Trails, Brae Island Regional Park, Langley City Park, Sendall Gardens, Ponder Park Nature Reserve, Glen Valley Regional Park and Campbell Valley Regional Park.
