Elk Falls Provincial Park

Elk Falls Provincial Park is a waterfall destination located west of the community of Campbell River, BC on Vancouver Island, Canada. The recreation park is a popular recreation destination for such activities and adventures as fishing, hiking and sightseeing.

There is a 6 kilometre network of hiking trails located in the Elk Falls Park. Many of the hiking trails follow the banks of the Campbell River and Quinsam River. The trails consist of dirt paths and plenty of boardwalk trail exploring through an old growth forest. There are foot bridges and stairs on the trails. Trails can be slippery from the moisture of the falls.

The highlight of the park is the Quinsam Salmon Hatchery and the three waterfalls - the Elk, Moose and Deer Waterfalls. The waterfalls are all on the Campbell River. Elk Falls is the biggest at 25 metres. Along the trails are viewing platforms, viewing benches overlooking the falls, rivers, canyon cliffs and hatchery.

The 1087 hectare Elk Falls Provincial Park includes a day use area and a campground. The day use area has 2 parking lots – one adjacent to a viewpoint and the other leads to a picnic site with picnic tables, pit toilets, and an information shelter. Along the hiking trails and in the parking lot are many information signs educating visitors on the forest habitat and the salmon spawning cycles.

There is a campground for tenting and RVs. near the campground is an adventure playground and sports field. There is running fresh water taps, pit toilets and flush toilets, an interpretive centre and a sani-station. There is no hot showers or electrical hook ups.

How to Get to Elk Falls

Travel to the community of Campbell River on Vancouver Island. The park is located 3 kilometres west of the community of Campbell River on Hwy # 28. towards the community of Gold River.
