PWHL Draft 2025 – Attending live in Ottawa, Ontario - There were moments during the 2025 Professional Women's Hockey League Draft on June 24, 2025, that inspired big dreams and laid the groundwork for future success. Already a distinctive year for the PWHL, the 2025 Player Draft was special due to the expansion of the league. Including the addition of two new teams in Seattle and Vancouver! This expansion significantly impacted how the original six teams were able to build their rosters and created 46 spots for players. I attended the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in Ottawa, Ontario, where the event was being held and was able to watch the draft unfold, in real time, from the outdoor stage.

Plus, for 100 young hockey enthusiasts from Ottawa and the surrounding area, June 24, 2025, became an unforgettable experience. Through the PWHL x Strong Girls United Draft Mentorship Program, these young athletes witnessed the draft up close and participated in an empowering day of leadership and learning.

One of the most memorable aspects of the day was seeing my daughter participate in this extraordinary event. Her passion for the sport made this opportunity possible, and witnessing her joy and inspiration was nothing short of heartwarming. The PWHL 2025 Draft highlighted the transformative power of mentorship and community in shaping the next generation of female athletes.

Mentoring the Next Shift - Strong Girls United Event at the PHWL 2025 Draft was a Program Built to Empower

In collaboration with Strong Girls United, the mentorship program focused on more than hockey. It emphasized leadership, resilience, and showing young athletes how to dream big. When participants arrived at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ottawa, excitement filled the air. The iconic pink "Strong Girls United" shirts symbolized the unity and aspirations of this remarkable community.

Highlight of the Day, An Amazing Experience for Young Female Hockey Players

The event began with check-in, where participants eagerly donned their custom event t-shirts. From there, the afternoon unfolded with a series of inspirational activities:

PWHL Speakers' Panel: Learning from the Pros

The draft floor transformed into a classroom as PWHL stars shared their personal journeys. They spoke about triumphs, challenges, and the perseverance it took to achieve their dreams. This session set the tone for an evening of inspiration.

Mental Skills & Mentorship

Following the panel, participants engaged in a dynamic session hosted by Strong Girls United. With guidance from their mentors, the young athletes worked on mental skills, teamwork, and strategies for success both on and off the ice.

The Big Moment: Live Draft Viewing

Finally, the participants gathered for the highlight of the event - the live PWHL Draft viewing. Watching their idols step into the next chapter of their professional careers was an electrifying and emotional experience. It was a moment that left everyone in awe.

Looking Ahead, Mentoring the Next Shift - Strong Girls United Event at the PWHL 2025 Draft

The PWHL x Strong Girls United Draft Mentorship Program proved that dreams are attainable with the right support and opportunities. For the young girls who participated, it was a day filled with lessons and moments that will fuel their aspirations for years to come. Perhaps one day, we'll see some of these bright stars being drafted into the PWHL themselves.

Final Thoughts on the PWHL 2025 Draft x Strong Girls United Experience

To everyone who contributed to making this day a success—the PWHL, Strong Girls United, mentors, and volunteers—thank you for inspiring young athletes and showing them the power of dreaming big. With more initiatives like this, the future of women's hockey looks brighter than ever.  My daughter left the PWHL 2025 Draft with a better understanding of the commitment, hard work and dedication required to make it to the professional league, and I'm sure it won't be the last the PWHL sees of her.
