Grassy Island, Moresby Island

A pull-out park rest area located off the main road leading into Sandspit Village located, approximately half-way between the Alliford BC Ferry Terminal and Sandspit Village. A very well maintained picnic area with peek-a-boo ocean views of the beach from all four tables.

Grassy Island - Haida Gwaii, BC Photo GalleryA short, short trail leads from the picnic area to a rocky, pebbled beach. At low tide more of the large rocks become exposed, exposing the beach thus creating more room to walk the rocks while beachcombing. The beach is an opportunity to enjoy bird watching and for taking pictures. A relaxing pit stop of busy scenery.

From the shores of the beach, on a clear day, one can see across Skidegate Inlet the Village of Skidegate. A short distance from the beach is an island with finely brushed grass leaning to one side from the combing of the, sometimes, harsh wind. The rock is called Grassy Island. It is not uncommon to see various birds perched on the small island.

The inlet views, especially in the early hours, is usually busy with marine traffic. The fishing vessels, yachts, crab boats and the BC Ferries, come and go, as the inlet is the main marine entrance to Skidegate, Queen Charlotte City and Sandspit Villages.

The pull-out rest area has good parking, but may be tricking for motorhomes. There are pit toilets onsite for business needing attention. Grassy Island Rest Area is close to the BC Ferry Terminal and to Dover Trail and Onward Point.
