Something Fishy on P.E.I.

Fishing Boat Views of Beach Point

Up at the crack of dawn, brewed some java, did some stretching… had a yawn here and there.. and then settled in for some quality time on the computer working and building some EH Tourism magic.

But on this morning there was a twist, something different was planned, something real fishy was going to go down at 9 AM.

We were pumped, because on this morning Bro and I, were heading out on the high seas for some quality time fishing off the coast of Prince Edward Island! (well.. OK…  maybe high seas is a bit of a stretch since we were going fishing  just outside of the protected harbour from where we were staying,  BUT to us, on this morning,  it was the high seas for a day).

Our Hosts at the Eberlee House have kindly invited us fishing with them as their guests. How sweet is that! It was an opportunity for us to get to better know each other, talk community, talk a bit about tourism, take some pictures and do some fishing.

Our morning was wondrous. There was a mist in the air.  Everything seemed so west coast again. The sights, smells and sounds were rushing back to me as I processed my BC  coast recollections.

The white and grey clouds moved swiftly over head.  They pushed up tight against the horizon, leaving cracks exposed, permitting the orange glow of the morning sun to squeak though.

Fish Boat

Java in hand,  we headed out on the ocean.  First we passed some of the local fishing boats in the harbour.  We then quickly learned that some boats are glass boats and some are wooden boats. Some come better equipped, some are classic old timers.

Most were here for the tuna season. Every morning the tuna fish boats come and go from the harbour as they drop off their loads at the fish processing plant.

We continued to motor out of the harbour, just pass Beach Point and Cape Bear.  Near a beacon we set anchor and starting fishing. It was great. Coffee in hand. Good conversation with good people. And fresh morning air. What is there not to like.. except we were there to fish.. and on that front we were not doing too well.

Fishing with BRO

Fishing is funny that way. It is not like it use to be when you could catch fish without even trying. But now,  it is a different time for fishing where some days you  catch your limit while on other days fish are fully content in playing hide and seek with you all morning…. I even think they may be watching and laughing at us from below.

We moved from spot to spot until we got a hit. At first we had a few bites and then, out of the blue, we got two strikes right away. Just like that we hooked into two Mackeral.

A short time later, the pan was heating up,  garlic was sizzling, butter melting and Bro was all reading to do some magic on the fish.  Who is laughing now fishy fishy.
