Silver Star Skiing – Vernon

Today we were up early for our road trip to Silver Star Mountain in Vernon in the Okanagan Valley.  Have not been boarding on Silver Star for a while now. So this was exciting.  Just getting outside is a rush especially since we like winter.

Ya, you heard me.. the cold and snow is a welcome change for us from the summer. I believe any time, in any season, outdoors is an adventure filled with quality time – mental and physical.  It is important to stay active year round.

Today  was to be a a ski and research trip with a healthy mixture of air time and speed.  We tried to minimize the bumps and bruises.. but we did not do that so well.

However, we tried.  We started with blue runs so to warm up, unlike last time when we jumped right into the “Double Black Diamonds (DBD)” . Not just any DBDs  but ones with no tracks laid down yet.  So it was a slow slog.  A result where  bro and I  were exhausted way too early in the day.

Today on Silver Star we started out slow and took more time warming up our edges and doing some video work before the DBDs.  And that was the ticket.

After we worked our bones in a bit on the Big Dipper and the Whiskey Jack (Blue Runs) we ventured to the back side of the mountain for some steeps, moguls and jumps via the Powder Gulch Express Chair.

Silver Star enjoys many short “Black Diamond” runs on the back side emptying into a bowl.  The back side is said to receive more snow too, which today, worked out to our advantage. Good news for powder hounds like us.

The favorite runs for us today were the  “White Elephant” and “Chute 5”.
