The park explores bluffs and cliffs decorated in arbutus and Garry Oak trees. The trails and cliffside viewpoints reveal marine and ocean views. The views reach as far as Saltspring Island and include Mayne Island, Active Pass, Navy Channel and the Pender Islands.

The 130 hectare park was first established in 1948. The park is a recreation destination for hiking, sightseeing, birdwatching and picnicking. There a few short hiking trails in the park. Some explore the cliff views, while others explore a forest of arbutus, red cedars, Douglas Fir and Garry Oak trees. Hike the short trail to Mathews Point Park and there are picnic tables, a rocky shoreline, tidal pools at low tide and more sightseeing opportunities.

Bluffs Park can be accessed via vehicle or by hiking trail. There is an 8 kilometre, easy-grade walking trail connecting from Whaler Bay to Bluffs Park. The trail is up hill and does have some sections which include elevation hiking. The trailhead in Whaler Bay is a few kilometres from the ferry docks.
