Onward Point Trail, Moresby Island

The short 15 minute trail located on Moresby Island near Sandspit explores the forests along the coastline of the island navigating around deadfall and through large trees. The wooded route leads to a look-out peering over Skidegate Inlet with rock cliffs and pulsating surge channels below.

Onward Point Lookout - Haida Gwaii, BC Photo GalleryThe Onward Point Trail is made of hard-packed earth with many tree roots and rocks exposed by heavy trail usage and exposure to the weather. Watch your step and be aware winds can be strong. Some of the trees along the trail are clinging to large boulders while others are barely hanging onto the hillside.

The trail is an easy grade walk, with a few stairs leading out to a lookout and there is an access trail leading down a steep climb to some rocky outcroppings and views of the Skidegate Village coastline and Torrens Island.

The trailhead parking lot is west of Sandspit Village. The small pull-out is on the left side of the road after driving for 5-10 minutes from the Alliford Bay BC Ferry Terminal. The Onward Point parking lot is small. There are pit toilets onsite.

From the parking lot the trail cuts through a swath of ferns and deadfall trees leading to a bedrock beach and look-out. The look-out peering out over the inlet is a popular place during April - June for spotting Grey Whales.
