Cathedral Grove-MacMillan Provincial Park

Cathedral Grove in the MacMillan Provincial Park is located east of the community of Port Alberni, BC on Vancouver Island, Canada. The 157 hectare wilderness park was created to protect the old growth forests within the Coastal Douglas Fir Biogeoclimatic Zone.

Cathedral Grove provides visitors a great opportunity to view some of the largest trees in British Columbia, if not Canada.  The trees are massive in MacMillan Park - most of them Douglas Fir and Red Cedar. There are trees in the park that are over 800 years old. One of the oldest Douglas Fir trees in Cathedral Grove is over 9 metres in diameter!

Throughout the park are a series of short hiking trails with information signs, sitting benches and viewing platforms. The hiking trails are  a mixture of dirt trails while  and boardwalk - many have handrails. Many are wheelchair and baby stroller friendly.

The park is accessed from the main highway ( Highway #4) that connects to Port Alberni, BC. There is parking located just off of the highway. From the parking lot there are some information signs and a trailhead leading into the park forest.

There are washrooms on site. Pets must be leashed at all times.
