Cranbrook
Lakit Lake is a small, shallow man-made lake. But it was not always a recreation lake. In the beginning the lake was a sawmill site and the lake was used as a log sorting millpond. Later the small lake became an irrigation lake for farm fields in the region before it became a wilderness campground.

Some of the activities enjoyed on the lake include fishing, camping and canoeing. No power boats are permitted on this lake. Fishing is best by trolling. Trout is the fish to catch here. Some people use Lakit Lake as a base camp. And from the base camp they explore the surrounding network of gravel roads and dirt trails while mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding.

There are open tenting  sites and some designated campsites. Some sites come with picnic tables and rock fire pits. There are pit toilets and a roof top boat launch here. The wilderness recreation destination is a self serve campground. Self serve means you pack out what you pack in. Leave no trace behind so others may enjoy the lake and campground also.

Wilderness campgrounds are exactly that - rough and rugged. The Lakit Lake Recreation Site is no exception. The campground is deep in the woods where wildlife also live. Wildlife living in the area includes some bears, moose, coyotes, elk, deer, squirrels and more.
