Box Lake – Nakusp

Located east of Nakusp is a little recreation site on the shores of Box Lake.  Here we decided to set up camp for a night. The location is private and is one of the self maintained campgrounds known in BC as a forestry recreation site. Not always easy to access these recreation sites as they are located on back country gravel roads.  This 2 kilometre road was narrow, with switchbacks and one way. There are  a few pull over areas if you should be so unlucky as to meet someone on the road.  We did not.

It is important to pack out what you pack in at these recreation sites. Unfortunately not everyone abides by this rule. Some people are inconsiderate and bone heads and leave garbage behind.  This really bugs me.

On this trip we were lucky, no garbage. We set up on one of the few campsites suited for trailers. Most campsites were tenting sites with no vehicle access. The lake already had some guests. A group of mountain bikers packing up after a few nights. And on the far end of the campground were a few families here for a day picnic.

When all had left, it was dark. We had the lake to ourselves. Worked on the computer till early morning hours.  All you could hear was the creek tumbling into the lake, me punching the keys on my laptop  and the loons singing in the dark. Nice.

Morning came and we woke up to some grinding sounds. What it sounded like was a crane. Out here in the bush, I do not think so. I pulled back the curtains and peered out with one eye. I had a work hang over, things were a bit blurry.

There was life on the lake as boats were being launched from the shore. 4 of them. People were up early to catch some trout on Box Lake. Our temporary home is also a  local fishing lake.

We packed up and were on the road again hoping to meet no one on the slow climb back up the narrow gravel road to the highway. We didn’t.

Eh… Be well, Be active!
