Hiking in Faro, Yukon

Bro and I have split up so we can cover the Yukon Territory more efficiently.  When you are with someone 24/7 and it is your brother.. solitude time for both of us is rare and sometimes welcomed. Plus we needed to make up time.

So my good Bro is heading back to Whitehorse to do some computer work and I went exploring the Robert Campbell Hwy leading to Faro. Mayo and Ross River.  A very small community in the less visited wilderness region of  the Yukon. A region which has gone though some tough economic times.  As for the adventures in the area, there is no shortage of wilderness to explore.

The trip involved driving a long gravel highway with a few paved sections.  A trip which saw the camper and jeep change color from red and white to brown and black. It is a long haul with plenty of scenery. Saw a black bear and a moose but it happened to quick  to get a picture.

One of the highlights in Faro is the Van Gorder Hiking Trail to a waterfall.  The trail is mostly uphill but it is not hard nor is it long. There are a few resting benches along the hill climbing sections for those who would like to rest.

I had the whole trail to myself and was pleasantly surprised to see I also had the whole lookout to myself  overlooking the waterfall. It was so relaxing I decided to stay awhile and just soak up the sounds and smells of the outdoors.  It felt good and brought a big smile to my face.

Here is a picture of myself sitting in the lookout with the waterfall inserted in the corner from my hike on the Van Gorder Trail in Faro, Yukon.
