Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park is located on the western shores of Lake Winnipeg in the small village of Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba, Canada . Lake Winnipeg... is an inland sea and the 10th largest fresh water lake in the world.

The provincial park encompasses the waterfront of the village including two long white sandy beaches - Main Beach and South Beach. Together... the two beaches are part of one 3 kilometre long white sandy beach.

Located next to the lake and sandy beach is a boardwalk and sandy/gravel trail. The main centre section of the trail is boardwalk. The entire waterfront trail is a popular walking and sightseeing path, as well as, a means to move around the shoreline.

Accessed in the park is an outdoor bandstand, an Indian Head monument, water tower, soccer field, volleyball courts and washrooms. Located along the trail are sightseeing benches, large grass lawns and trees for shade cover.

Some of the amenities available in the beach park include some day use picnic sites, boat launches, a full service campground, picnic shelters, washrooms and a playground. During the summer months the path entertains visitors with events, gift boutiques, musicians and food vendors.

Activities enjoyed during the summer months in the Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park include swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, sightseeing, boating, water skiing, sailing, wind surfing and fishing for perch, northern pike, walleye, silver bass, carp and/or catfish.

During the winter months Lake Winnipeg freezes over and the 10th largest lake in the world becomes an ice fishing destination and a snowmobile right of way.

In the Village of Winnipeg Beach there are some services important to travelers. Many are within walking distance. Services include a grocery store, gas station, ATM, telephone, laundromat, fast food and restaurants.

For many decades people have been coming to Winnipeg Beach to relax and to celebrate. In the early 1920s the beach was the site of many late night dances and gala events. During the 20's there was even a dance hall and an amusement park operating on the waterfront.

It was during the 20's when people would travel from all over the province to spend a weekend at Winnipeg Beach. Trains once transported, up to, 80,000+ people a weekend between Winnipeg and Winnipeg Beach.

Times changed and Winnipeg Beach was put in a holding pattern until in 1961 the government declared Winnipeg Beach a provincial park.

How To Get ToWinnipeg Beach Provincial Park

:
From the community of Gimli, Manitoba travel south on 7th Avenue (follow signs for Hwy #9) to the Village of Winnipeg Beach. In the village take a left onto Ash Avenue and then a right onto Gimli Road. Continue to Robinson Ave and then take a left and then another right onto Main Street in the Village of Winnipeg Beach. Just up the road is Dnr Road and the park. Total distance one-way is 17.5 kilometres.
