The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia Canada Parliament Buildings are located on the front yard of the Inner Harbour in the downtown core in the City of Victoria, British Columbia (B.C) on  Vancouver Island.  Victoria, British Columbia, Canada is the Capital City of the province.

The B.C. Government buildings are the dominant feature residing on a 5 hectare (12.5 acre) waterfront property decorated with statues, a fountain, totem pole and floral gardens. The buildings are the centre of policy for the province and the harbour it sits on is the centre for many attractions, accommodations, tours, guides, restaurants, retail stories, activities, entertainment and artists. Plain and simple, you cannot miss this building when on the waterfront in Victoria.

The political governing body - elected by British Columbians - assembles in this house to pass law and make decisions affecting the future direction of the province.

The construction of the BC Parliament Buildings began in 1893 and was led by a 25 year old architect by the name of Francis Rattenbury. In 1897, during Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, the construction of the Legislative Buildings were deemed complete.

The Parliament Buildings of British Columbia, Canada were officially opened in February 1898. However details, refinishing, additions and upgrades were always ongoing until 1915.

Francis Rattenbury and his crew made an effort to use local materials, resources and expertise when building the Parliament Buildings. It was important to him and the Government to support local businesses during this very important time in British Columbia history.

Granite rock foundations were brought in from nearby Nelson Island. The site facades were locally imported from Haddington Island. Most of the local brick, lime and Douglas Fir were accumulated from around Vancouver Island.

During the night the Parliament Buildings light up the sky with over 3,300 light bulbs casting a magical glow over the harbour.

The BC Parliament Buildings provides guided tours Monday to Friday. Tours are provided in both official languages of Canada - English and French - and can be arranged in other languages when notice is provided.
