Often, during the warmer months there are birds hiding in the pocket of holes buried in the nearby cliffs and there are pelicans seen bathing in the river.

The trails of the Alexander Wilderness Park explores a flood plain on the banks of the Oldman River. There are three trails leading to viewpoints exploring the nature reserve which measures about 42 hectares (105 acres).

The 2.5 kilometres of hiking trails are accessed from the main parking lot (closest to the river). The trails are easy going, level pathways covered in red rock gravel. Located near the entrance parking lot, at the base of coulees, are some pit toilets and a picnic site.

Each of the three trails leads to natural viewpoints with views of the Oldman River and overlooking a valley of rolling coulees. The trails explore a grassland prairie environment with groves of cottonwood trees surrounded by clusters of saskatoon and buffaloberry bushes.

The Alexander Wilderness Park is north of the downtown core of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada - far away from the city sights and sounds. It is an ideal park to visit for serenity and for exploring in a peaceful environment.
