Echo Dale Regional Park is a popular activity destination and one of the more developed parks located west of the community of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada in the southern Alberta region of Canada.

Medicine Hat, Alberta photo galleryThe park measures 255 hectares (630 acres) and includes walking trails, picnic sites, two recreation lakes and a historic homestead. It is one of the more popular parks in the region because of the sandy beach, activities and ease of access by car and trail.

Some of the summer activities enjoyed in the Echo Dale Regional Park include swimming, hiking, canoeing, birdwatching, picnicking and lounging around on the large grass lawns.

The two lakes in this Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada park are called Swim Lake and Boat Lake. Swim Lake enjoys a large sandy beach, grass lawns, volleyball court, a swim centre (change rooms and washrooms), playground, picnic shelter and picnic tables. The beach is monitored by a life guard during the summer hours.

Boat Lake includes a small boat house and canoe rentals. In the centre of the lake is an island. Boat Lake is also a good destination for birdwatching.

Exploring the shores of Swim and Boat Lake are paved and gravel recreation trails. Each looping around a lake connecting with each other. Some spots on the trails include sightseeing and sitting benches.

The side trails lead away from the lakes and explore the coulees outside the park. The Echo Dale Park trails connect to the Heritage Trail System which lead explorers back into the community of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada.

The Echo Dale Historic Farm site is located on the west end of the regional park. It is an active pioneer farm with historic buildings, artifacts, demonstrations and tours. It is an opportunity to relive the late 1800s visiting with the Woolfrey House, Ajax Mine, farm animals, Pony Barn and Dairy Barn.

In the late 1800s Henry Doc Scatcherd built his dream farm house. The Woolfrey Family, the last owners of the home, donated the buildings in 1986 to the city and then moved the historic buildings to the Echo Dale Regional Park.

How to Get to Echo Dale Regional Park

Travel to the community of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. From Highway #1 (Trans Canada Hwy) in the community of Medicine Hat travel southwest on Hwy #41 (Crowsnest Hwy) to Holsom Road. Travel west on Holsom Road to Echo Dale Road and turn right again. Continue straight to the park. Echo Dale Park is about 14 kilometres (8.5 miles) from Medicine Hat.
