Whistler BC, British Columbia

Canada's first resort municipality, the Village of Whistler, has grown from a rural backcountry escape into a prime adventure destination in British Columbia. The looming snow-capped mountains dominating the skyline, the alpine lakes and rivers occupying the valleys and the forested hills... all play a big part in creating some of the most prime conditions for year round play.

The two main mountains fronting the community, Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, are accessed from the centre of the village. From the village the gondola takes you up the mountain revealing jaw-dropping views of the entire valley. And from the top, the adrenaline kicks in and the adventure begins.

During the summer and winter months in Whistler, the resort town is crawling with people looking for adventure.

Some come in the summer from around the world to birdwatch, horseback ride, river raft, off road or sightsee. While most arrive to explore the trails in the area while hiking and mountain biking.

When the hills are green the mountain bikers hit the trails hard. Whistler Mountain becomes an extreme mountain bike park - considered one of north Americas best. South of Whistler, the Interpretive Forest area is home to many hiking trails including the Cheakamus Lake Trail. A trail that leads all explorers into the Garibaldi Park wilderness outback. During the winter months, the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains transform into a snow destination attracting downhill skiers, snowboarders, xc skiers, snowmobilers, snowshoers and dog sledders. The snow arrives in the fall covering the massive mountain valley and trail system in a thick white blanket. The snow sticks around until the late spring creating a winter wonderland of possibilities for all winter enthusiasts.
