Slocan Valley Rail Trail – Paradise Valley Lodge

Gem of the Slocan Valley – Paradise Valley Lodge

“Thank you for a wonderful stay. Thank you for the quality conversation. Thank you for the peace, comfort and relaxation. Pam & David are truly Stars of Tourism”

Paradise Valley Lodge

Arrived in the Slocan Valley under some beautiful blue sunshine skies ready, willing and a tad excited to explore the Slocan Valley Rail Trail while enjoying the hospitality of our hosts at Paradise Valley Lodge in Winlaw, British Columbia, Canada in the Kootenays.

Nestled in the forests of the West Kootenays, Paradise Valley Lodge, provided the “eh Team” comfortable and clean accommodations in a peaceful, private and wilderness environment which was ideal for exploring and discovering some of the activity destinations in the region including the Slocan Valley Rail Trail, Slocan River and the Winlaw Nature Park.

Comfortable Bedrooms

The Paradise Valley Lodge accommodation can sleep up to 10 or so people comfortably and it is a haven of a destination for group gatherings, celebrations of life, weddings, family functions and, pretty much, anything “groupish” within reason. The vacation home enjoys a large open-floor-plan with 3-4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry, office, common living area and a fully serviced kitchen equipped with any and every knickknack required for cooking and preparing meals. The walls are decorated tastefully with local art and each room is furnished with quality and comfort in mind.

The common living area provides plenty of seating and, more than enough, windows looking out onto a world of nature awaiting your arrival in the backyard. Just off the living area is a large kitchen table and a preparation area which is fully stocked with cooking amenities for serving and preparing large meals. For those who like music while on vacation your hosts have provided you with a selection of folksy, jazzy, classical tunes to play in the background. And for those who can not live without TV or internet – there is that too.

Common Area – Paradise Valley Lodge

Myself, internet is key. TV I could live without. It is a work thing. So, while I work I like to have music playing. I love to experiment with my music so it was a treat to be introduced to some music I have never heard of or have not listened to in a long time. During my stay I had music playing most of the time. I like all music. Ok, not true. I like most music. The only genre which I have a hard time bonding with is country music. Sorry if I offended country music fans. It is not personal.

Paradise Valley Lodge was everything and more. However, the “cherry on the sundae” for me was the private forested backyard. I am bias when it comes to the outdoors. In the centre of the fenced backyard is a large pond with a sitting bench. Just to the side are some cottage country chairs and a fire pit. Steps away from the fire pit are some picnic tables and a BBQ. During my visit the conditions were right as the flowers were blooming, the birds were singing, and the forest was dressed in its finest greens.

Slocan River – Slocan Valley Rail Trail

During our stay I explored the Slocan Valley Rail Trail. It is a 50+ kilometre hiking, biking, birding and, yes, horseback riding trail following along the banks of the Slocan River. During the winter the trail morphs into a cross country ski route. The northern trailhead is Slocan Lake. The lake is a treat in itself as there is a sandy beach, picnic area, information signs, large dock, boat launch and plenty of parking. One can access the trail from 7 different points along the route. Located along the route are various services, attractions and accommodations including Paradise Valley Lodge. The scenery? Well… it is just brilliant.

A hop, skip and a jump from the Paradise Valley Lodge is a lesser known birding sight called the Winlaw Nature Park. What a find for this first time visitor. The dirt and boardwalk loop trails explored a wetland populated with many species of birds. On my visit I was in awe of the many different tweets and chirps permeating the skies from the birding wildlife inhabiting the wetlands. While I was walking the trails I even spooked a deer hiding in the reeds as it scampered for cover. For those who plan on staying awhile there is a common picnic area on the banks of the river as well.

We here at ehCanadaTravel.com believe a host can make or break a vacation no matter how nice the accommodation is. You do not have to worry here. Our host was nice as pie and very hospitable. Prior to our arrival we were sent maps of the surrounding services, directions to the vacation home, hints for preparing for our stay and a map of the nearby activities. Once I arrived on site I was greeted with all smiles as I was escorted around the home and yard with respect and kindness.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. Thank you for the quality conversation. Thank you for the peace, comfort and relaxation. Pam & David are truly “Stars of Tourism”.
