What You Should Know About Mountain Biking In The Yukon Territories Canada

The backcountry gravel roads, wagon roads and recreation trails provide plenty of opportunities for mountain biking in the Yukon Territories. There are designated mountain biking trails and shared trails with hikers and horseback riders located throughout the territory.

Throughout the Yukon are many short day rides and long haul rides to enjoy. Some are considered easy while others are more difficult. There are downhill runs, technical riding trails, single track and paved pathways. However, most of the biking trails follow dirt and gravel paths.. and they can get muddy.

Best Mountain Biking Trails In The Yukon

In Dawson City there are two long haul routes enjoyed by mountain bikers. There is Ridge Road Trail which is a 32 kilometre Klondike Gold Rush heritage route. The other Dawson City trail is the 106 kilometre gravel road called the Top of the World Highway which connects Dawson City with Alaska. Both are scenic with low traffic.

Whitehorse has one of the best combination of paved and gravel biking trails in the Yukon Territory for casual bike rides with the family. The combination of the mostly paved Millennium Walkway and the dirt Yukon Loop Trail makes for a great family outing. There are wilderness routes too in the region. Areas like Grey Mountain make for some good downhill.

Haines Junction is home to the Kluane National Park and Reserve. A massive park with a good selection of long haul mountain biking adventures. Some of the mountain biking trails to make note of include Mush Lake Road, Slims East Trail and Alsek Trail.

Montana Mountain is an old mining mountain in Carcross, Yukon. The packhorse mining trails and backcountry gravel roads have been converted into a Yukon style mountain bike park complete with loop routes, some downhill and some technical runs. The trails are signed and roughly marked. There are bridges, rock drops and dirt jumps.

Throughout the community of Faro is a network of gravel trails navigating around the village and along the Pelly River like the Wolf Trail, Fox Trail, Bear Trail and Rabbit Trail. One of the more recognized long haul touring mountain biking wilderness trails in the Yukon Territory begins near Faro. It is called the Dena Cho Trail. It is 67 kilometres long.

In the Silver Trail region near the community of Mayo is a lesser known wilderness trail for the technical rider called the Conservative Trail.
