You know how you see a thing on Instagram, save the thing on Instagram and then eventually decide you must go do the thing from Instagram?
Well, that's exactly what I did last week when I saw a post about Kaczmarski Fruit Farms and their famous peach fritters. They are famous for their White Knight peaches, and this would be the last weekend they would sell them before transitioning to apples. So I decided to take a little road trip on a rainy Sunday afternoon to Lincoln, ON to try them.
What I failed to realise? The Instagram blast had apparently been very effective because a massive line greeted me when I arrived. I committed to the lineup for about 20 minutes before learning the wait would be over two hours.
"You know, if you drive about a half hour away, you could get fritters on the lake and drive back to Hamilton within that 2 hour window," the woman behind me suggested while holding her massive umbrella to shield me from the rain.
I conceded. And a half hour later, this is the result. A half dozen apple fritters with a side of caramel sauce for $24.
Was it worth it? Yes, because it forced me to do a little road trip on my own, and they were actually pretty good for leftovers.
But I would have loved to try Kaczmarski's peach fritters. Would you have waited two hours for the viral fritters?
