Jasper National Park Wildfire Aftermath HWY 93A 2026 Alberta Canada
Driving Highway 93A through Jasper National Park offers a powerful look at how the landscape has changed since the devastating 2024 Jasper Wildfire.
The Jasper Wildfire began on July 22, 2024, during extreme hot, dry and windy conditions. Multiple fires south of Jasper quickly merged and moved north through the Athabasca River Valley toward the Jasper townsite.
The wildfire became the largest recorded in Jasper National Park in more than 100 years.
Today, travelling Highway 93A reveals both the impact of the fire and the beginning stages of forest recovery. Burned trees, open views and patches of surviving forest create a dramatically different drive through this section of the Canadian Rockies.
This video was filmed while travelling Highway 93A near Leech Lake, during a September 2026 road trip through Jasper National Park.

Wow that is crazy! -
Thomas Worsley Ya it was my 1st time back since the fire. Pretty intense to see the whole valley gone. Still amazingly beautiful though -
How utterly gut wrenching to see this. I have not been to Jasper since 2015 and seeing the totally preventable devastation is heartbreaking. -
That is pretty shocking, but as you say, there is an eerie kind of beauty. With time the wildflowers will move in and life will begin to return.
