High on a wooded hillside near the Muskeg River, just outside Grande Cache, Alberta, is a small historic graveyard marked by wooden spirit houses and simple white crosses. The burial ground is connected to the Indigenous families and communities who lived and travelled through this region long before the modern town of Grande Cache was established.

Today, the Muskeg River Graveyard is included on the Grande Cache Historical Driving Tour, although there is little signage at the site itself. It is an easy piece of local history to pass without realizing what sits right along the highway.
