2026 Canada Adventure Seeker Retreat

One of the highly talked about activities on our annual Adventure Seeker Retreat this year was fishing! And the weather definitely made us wonder if we would be able to accomplish said mission. But regardless, we grabbed the rods and rain jackets then headed to nearby Burnstick Lake from our accommodations at Bearberry Cabins.

At least one Seeker has never fished before and was eager to give it a try. Burnstick Lake near Sundre, Alberta is a fantastic family friendly and beginner friendly lake to learn on. With usually calm water, a nice public dock, easy accessible access, and plenty of parking. There are also a variety of species of fish to try for. Although late in the day, my daughter was trying her luck with perch most of the time. While Adventure Seekers Andrea and Kim went after the bigger fish...northern pike.

Within minutes of arriving, we saw multiple fish jumping and feeding on the bugs that were hovering above the surface of the water. Excitement was in the air! It didn't take long to lock into a decent sized pike! Kim had a blast fighting and reeling the fish in. I was too excited and busy taking a video to grab the net. But proof is in the pictures!

It didn't take Adventure Seeker Kim long to pick up the fishing bug. "I'm hooked!" She exclaimed! Coming from British Columbia, pike was an exciting first fish to catch. As they are not a common fish to find in British Columbia. Yet they are common around Alberta lakes and relatively easy to catch.
