Agriculture, Mother Mother and Stampede Spirit

Our Thursday, July 9 visit was our 2nd time that week to the Calgary Stampede. It was a half-day adventure that focused on many of the experiences visitors often overlook. While the midway is always exciting, we spent much of our time inside the Agriculture Discovery Zone and livestock barns, where my little adventure seeker picked up a Calgary Stampede Kids Passport. Along the way, she collected stamps while exploring interactive exhibits before earning a prize coupon for free milk and cookies.

From learning how to milk a dairy cow and meeting farm animals to discovering Alberta's agricultural roots through hands-on displays, it was a wonderful reminder that the Calgary Stampede is much more than rides and midway food. Agriculture remains at the heart of this world-famous event, and the family-friendly exhibits make it well worth setting aside part of your day to explore.

Later, we made our way to the Coca-Cola Stage for an energetic performance by Canadian band Mother Mother, before looking skyward for the Calgary Stampede drone show. We finished the evening watching the fireworks from the BMO Centre parking lot near Cowboys Casino, where we found an excellent view away from the largest crowds.

One of my favourite parts of Stampede week isn't just the grounds themselves, it's Calgary. Everywhere you go, from restaurants and hotels to shopping centres and businesses across the city, you'll find western decorations, cowboy hats and plenty of Stampede spirit. We even stopped for breakfast at IHOP in Deerfoot City before our adventure, where the restaurant had joined in the celebration with its own western-themed decorations.

If you're planning a family visit, children 6 and under receive free admission, making the Calgary Stampede even more affordable for young families. It's also worth purchasing the $50 SuperPass before the Stampede begins, as it includes unlimited admission throughout the event and offers excellent value if you're planning more than one visit.
