The historic Nordegg Bank is one of the small but memorable heritage buildings still standing in the old townsite of Nordegg, Alberta. Located in Clearwater County along the David Thompson Highway corridor, this former coal mining community was founded in 1914 as a planned company town connected to the Brazeau Collieries mine. At its peak, Nordegg grew into a busy mountain town with miners’ homes, stores, a hospital, community spaces, and a commercial core serving families, workers, and travellers in the Rocky Mountain foothills.
The old bank building is believed to date back to the early 1900s and has been described as one of the original bank buildings from the time Nordegg was built. Today, the structure is being renovated into a future local shop and market, giving visitors a chance to see a piece of Alberta history stepping into a new chapter. During my visit, a stop at a small lemonade stand outside the building came with an unexpected bonus tour inside the old bank. Inside were painted bank-themed scenes, playful displays, vintage details, and signs of a heritage building being brought back to life.
This photo album shares a look at the old Nordegg Bank during its renovation, along with nearby views of the historic church, mountain scenery, and small-town Alberta charm. For travellers exploring David Thompson Country, Abraham Lake, Nordegg, or the west side of Clearwater County, this historic bank is a reminder that some of the best road trip stops are the ones you do not plan.

They told me it was "the original tub". Which left me with questions...did someone live above the bank way back when?
