Our Lady Peace at TIFF 2026: Canadian Rock Meets the Big Screen

Our TIFF adventure ended on a high note with Our Lady Peace, a Canadian rock icon, and the world premiere of Gail.

Yesterday, on the final day of the Toronto International Film Festival 2026, we headed to the theatre to watch Gail, a new Canadian documentary directed by Michael Maxxis. But our Our Lady Peace adventure actually started earlier, when we watched the band perform on the Rogers Red Carpet in Yorkville.

Seeing one of Canada’s most recognizable rock bands perform right in the heart of Toronto during TIFF was such a fun way to experience the festival. Then, on the last day of TIFF, we got to see the story behind the music unfold on the big screen.

Gail at TIFF: An Our Lady Peace Documentary About Music and Fandom

Gail follows Gail Lichtman, an Our Lady Peace superfan from New York City, as she travels with the band during their 30th anniversary Canadian tour. Gail has been following OLP since 1995 and has attended more than 150 of their shows around the world.

What made our screening even more special was what happened before and after the movie.

Director Michael Maxxis and Our Lady Peace bassist Duncan Coutts were there with us. They introduced the film before the screening and then took part in a Q&A afterwards.

And one of my favourite TIFF moments happened in between.

They actually sat in the audience with us and watched the movie too.

That is one of the things I love most about TIFF. You can walk into a theatre to watch a film and discover that the people who created it are sitting right there alongside you, experiencing the audience reaction at the same time.

TIFF 2026, Our Lady Peace and Canadian Music in Toronto

Meanwhile, the combination of the live performance and the film made this feel like a particularly Canadian TIFF adventure.

We got to experience Our Lady Peace live in Yorkville, then discover Gail on the big screen on the final day of TIFF. It brought together Canadian rock, filmmaking, Toronto and a fascinating story about the connection between musicians and their fans.

The Rogers Red Carpet was part of Rogers’ TIFF programming in Yorkville, where Our Lady Peace performed during the festival. The band’s connection to Gail made the experience even more meaningful, bringing the live music we had enjoyed earlier into the story we watched at the theatre.

Most importantly, Gail reminded us that behind every band, concert and song are stories about the people who connect with the music.

And that is exactly the kind of unexpected experience we love discovering at TIFF.

From the red carpet to the theatre, this was a pretty great way to wrap up our TIFF 2026 adventure.

Come adventure with us!
