Olds, Alberta is a great place to take a break from the car and stretch your legs while discovering public art along the Trans Canada Trail. 

Our adventure started at Cornerstone Art Commons, an outdoor public art space. Here, you’ll find large panels featuring artwork created by local artists, along with a feature stone sculpture from the Bergen Rocks collection. It’s also located right at the west end of the Olds Rocks Sculpture Pathway, making it a natural starting point for exploring the sculptures along Highway 27.

From there, we crossed the road and followed the sculpture trail, discovering unique pieces of public art along the way. Along the route, the landscape is transformed into an outdoor gallery where art and the Alberta community come together. The sculptures make this more than just a quick walk, especially if you enjoy finding unexpected attractions in small Canadian towns.

We explored Olds with fellow Adventure Seeker Lisa Muldoon, making the stop even more fun. In fact, some of the sculptures found around Olds have a fascinating connection to the Bergen International Sculpture Park near Sundre. 23 sculptures were created during international sculpture symposia held at Bergen, and a few have since been moved to public displays in communities such as Olds and Sylvan Lake.
