A scenic coastal journey aboard the Queen of Surrey from West Vancouver to the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia

Leaving West Vancouver, our Sunshine Coast adventure began at Horseshoe Bay, where we boarded the Queen of Surrey for a scenic BC Ferries crossing to Langdale. Before boarding, we explored the waterfront around Horseshoe Bay, with its marina, mountain views and even an unexpected wildlife sighting - a group of harbour seals with their pups in the bay. Soon, it was time to board and begin our journey across the water.

Aboard the Queen of Surrey

Our journey to the Sunshine Coast was made aboard the Queen of Surrey, which provides regular BC Ferries service between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale. The 40-minute sailing offers plenty of opportunities to experience the ferry and enjoy the changing coastal scenery, and there are crossings offered approximately every 2 hours on weekdays.
Inside, our photos capture the passenger experience, including the cafeteria, work stations, Passages gift shop, travel-information kiosks, and comfortable lounge seating offering panoramic views of the scenery. Meanwhile, outside, the upper decks provide fresh air and expansive views of the surrounding mountains and coastal waters. The ferry also features accessible washrooms, elevators, a kids' play area and a Pet Area.

Horseshoe Bay to Langdale: Scenic Sunshine Coast sightseeing

As the Queen of Surrey left Horseshoe Bay, the waterfront gradually opened into a spectacular coastal panorama. From the bow and upper sundeck, mountains, islands and sparkling waters created constantly changing views for sightseeing and photography. Smaller watercraft in the sound, tug boats pulling log booms, gorgeous west-coast homes and cottages along the waterfront, and the possibility of spotting a whale off the side of the ship provided non-stop excitement.

The crossing is more than simply transportation. Instead, it provides a chance to slow down, enjoy the scenery and experience a memorable part of travelling through coastal British Columbia. For visitors planning a Sunshine Coast road trip, the ferry ride itself becomes part of the adventure.

Arriving at Langdale on the Sunshine Coast

Finally, Langdale marked the beginning of the next stage of our Sunshine Coast journey. From the Langdale terminal, travellers can continue towards Gibsons, Sechelt and other coastal communities, with beaches, forests, and seaside attractions just waiting to be explored.
