Things To Do in Hearst, Ontario, Canada

 

Here is a Hearst Things To Do List for some of the more popular summer and winter adventures and activities enjoyed while visiting and exploring, in and around, Northern Ontario, Canada including the surrounding communities of Hallebourg, Val Côté, and Mattice.

fushimi lake parkRods & Reels : There are nearby provincial parks and fly-in lodges, outposts and wilderness resorts located throughout the northern wilderness backcountry which are ideal for fishing walleye, whitefish, perch and northern pike. 

Camp Out : The rural and wilderness environment in the region is very popular for camping during the summer season. There are wilderness sites, local campgrounds and provincial park campgrounds available for camping.

Paddle Hard : A vast backcountry network of lakes and rivers in the region provide a great opportunity to kayak and canoe. There are easy-going day paddles and long haul overnight paddles with portages. Some parks provide kayak nd canoe rentals.

Off Roading : The forest industry has created a massive network of backcountry gravel logging roads which lead deep into the wilderness. The trails, spurs and deactivated forestry roads are popular routes for an ATV, dirt bike and 4x4.

Sightseeing Tours : Hop a train in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and travel north by rail to Hearst, Ontario. Along the route you visit Agawa Canyon, waterfalls, hiking trails while enjoying wildlife sightings. Or... take to the air and go flightseeing.

Touring : The highways (especially Hwy 11) and the connecting side roads in the region are all popular sightseeing routes for touring by car, motorcycle and cycle. Along the route are rest stops, parks and small villages.

Day Hiking : Enjoy a day walking and sightseeing along the banks of the Mattawishkwia River in Hearst or visit Johnson Lake for a walk (just north of town). Or... take a drive to a nearby provincial park and hike some of their wilderness trails too.

Sledding :Snowmobiling is a top notch adventure in the region during the winter season. There are over 1000+ kilometres of maintained snowmobile trails to explore connecting to remote lakes, communities and parks.

Fishing Ice: Hundreds of frozen lakes located in the remote backcountry to fish. Some guides fish from ice shacks while others operate out of remote fishing lodges. Come and see what you are missing.

Cross Country Ski : Pack the skis and bundle up for a xc ski sightseeing adventure. Experienced skiers can explore the backcountry snow covered gravel roads while others ski the 30+ kilometres of groomed ski trails near Hearst.
