Things To Do in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada

 

Here is a Kirkland Lake Things To Do List for some of the more popular summer and winter adventures and activities enjoyed while visiting and exploring, in and around, Northern Ontario, Canada including the surrounding communities of Swastika, Chaput Hughes, Charlton, James, Englehart, Larder Lake, Goodfish Lake, Matachewan and McGarry.

esker lakes park ontarioRod and Reel :Fishing guides, lodges and outposts located in the region for fishing trout, northern pike and walleye. For the self guided fisherman there are many remote lakes to fish from also. 

Rail Sightseeing : Take a road trip south to the community of Englehart, Ontario and visit with some vintage locomotive train exhibits like the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario steam engines.

Summit a Mountain :Hike the elevation trail to the summit on Mount Cheminis located east of Kirkland Lake. From the 500 metre summit one can enjoy the sights for many kilometres. Maps available in community.

Beach It :Unpack the swimming trunks and hit the sandy beaches. Culver Park, Esker Lakes Provincial Park, Raven Park, Kap Kig Iwan Park and Crystal Beach all have beaches and a varied selection of amenities.

Biking :The assortment of backcountry gravel roads and some park trails in the region provide a great opportunity to enjoy a selection of challenging and casual mountain biking adventures. Maps available in community.

Hike a Trail :There are provincial parks, green space and wilderness areas with hiking trails including the Esker Lakes Provincial Park, Mount Cheminis, Kinross Pond and the Kap Kig Iwan Provincial Park. Maps available in community. 

Paddle In :There are long haul canoe and kayak routes and there are day paddles in the region exploring lakes and rivers including Larder River, Beaverhouse Lake, Misema River, Watabeag River and Englehart River. Maps available in community.

Historic Walks :Museums, monuments and mining tours (Toburn Headframe & Wright-Hargreaves Mine) all share the history of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada. Summer mining tours available. 

Pack a Picnic :Load up the family, pack up some outdoor toys, a picnic and head out to a remote lake or visit one of the day use picnic sites in the region. 

Wildlife Sightings : Whether on an adventure, touring or walking trails always keep an eye out for wildlife sightings including fox, moose, beaver and many various bird species.

Wild Road Trips : Near Englehart, Ontario located just south of Kirkland Lake are two wilderness parks - Larder Lake and Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial Parks. Both popular adventure destinations for exploring while hiking, fishing and canoeing.

Sledding :The local snowmobile club helps maintain over 300+ kilometres of snowmobile trails which explore both Ontario and Quebec, Canada. Maps and snowmobile rentals available in community. 

Ski Mountain: Just across the border in Quebec, Canada is a developed ski and snowboard resort called Mount Kanasuta. Locally, there are a few ski runs and a snow boarding park at the Larder Lake Ski Club.
