Haywire Bay is a Regional Park located on the northern portion of the Sunshine Coast just north of the community of Powell River, BC. It is about 7 km (4.5 miles) drive north of the community. The popular destination is located in a cove on the southeast portion of Powell Lake which is next door to Inland Lake.

Powell Lake is an attractive destination for individuals who plan to spend a sunny day on a canoe and is one of the larger lakes in the area. The sandy beach draws many people to the area to picnic and swim. Many stay longer in one of the wilderness campsites in Haywire Park attracting the hikers, tenters and RV campers.

What is unique to Haywire Bay is that tenters, if there timing is right, and they have the transportation, uh, like a canoe then there are 12 waterfront campsites just a short distance away on Honeymoon Island. The island off Haywire Bay is reachable by swimmers. But it just might be tough staying afloat with a tent and camping supplies in your hands.

If the timing is not right, no worries, as there are 33 RV and tenting campsites located a little closer to shore on the mainland. First come first serve as there are no registration rules at Haywire Bay Regional Park. Surprising, as it is a full service facility in most ways because of what is available onsite like the picnic shelter, drinking water, boat launch, toilets and showers.

Haywire Bay Regional Park has two main trails. The more popular route connects to the 4 km (2.5 mi) Lost Lake Trail. The trail is a good work out because of the small climbs and descents taking you past Lost Lake and eventually connecting to the west side of Inland Lake. It takes maybe 4 -5 hours return trip. Powell Lake has some short trails also leading around the lake.
