Cranbrook

Moyie Lake Provincial Park is 90.5 hectares and was established in 1959. The park was established to protect the habitat around the lake as it is home to many plants and wildlife. Some of the wildlife protected in the park include beaver, muskrat, whitetail deer, songbirds, shorebirds and waterfowl.

The park activities popular in the summer months include swimming, picnicking, boating, kayaking, canoeing, wind surfing, sailing, birdwatching and fishing. When enjoying an activity on the lake it is important to note that the lake is prone to sudden changes in wind and temperatures.

The campground is mostly under tree cover while the day use area is situated on large grass lawns exposed to the sun. The region around the lake consists of many eco systems. The dry areas tend to have more larch, white spruce and lodgepole pine trees. While closer to the wet areas around the lake there are black cottonwood and alder trees.

The day use area on Moyie Lake fronts a large sandy beach. The well manicured grass lawns are covered with picnic tables. Some tables sit out in the open while others have shelters over them. There are change rooms, flush toilets, interpretive signs, a large parking lot and a boat launch in the day use area also.

The campground in the park is a large one with 111 campsites. Each campsite consists of a picnic table and fire pit. The well maintained campground includes hot showers, an adventure playground, sani station , flush toilets, water taps, amphitheatre and hiking trails.

There are two hiking trails in the park. Both are interpretive trails with signs describing the wildlife and habitat. The Meadow Trail is a short 2 kilometre trek through the forest located near the park gates. The Kettle Pond Trail begins near the amphitheatre in the campground.
