Property description

This trip brings you the diversity of the Pacific Coast. On the one hand you have the very British city of Victoria and the beauty of its colonial heritage; on the other, the wildness of the Pacific coast at Long Beach and trekking the Juan de Fuca trail. We will go on a whale-watching excursion, take a boat trip to a hot springs on the edge of the ocean, perhaps surf the Pacific waves and hike the coastal trails. The trip is punctuated with arts and crafts options, and ends in with an exploration of the Horne Lake caves. The coastal scenery on this trip will fill your camera.

Day 1: Meet your tour leader and fellow adventurers at the joining hotel to get your tour orientation. Then enjoy dinner at one of Vancouver’s many renowned restaurants.
Day 2: Enjoy the incredible scenery of the Gulf Islands as we cross to Vancouver Island, reaching China Beach, the start of the Juan de Fuca Trail trek, about noon. Today’s easy half-day trek to Bear Beach is a good orientation to the trail.

Day 3: The second day of trekking the Trail is the toughest day, but the ocean scenery is spectacular. We’ll trek about 12 km to Chin Beach, where we’ll enjoy a well-deserved relaxing evening.

Day 4: The third day of the trek is somewhat easier, though still rated as “moderate,” taking us another 12 km to Little Kuistsche Creek.

Day 5: The final day of the trek is mostly flat, taking us the last 14 km of the trail to Port Renfrew. There we’ll spend some time enjoying Botanical Beach with it its unique geological and botanical tidal pools, and likely meet other adventurers joining us for the rest of the trip exploring Vancouver Island. We’ll spend tonight in the historic, very British, city of Victoria.

Day 6: We travel up the Island, then across to the Pacific coast, stopping at numerous sites along the way, including Duncan totem poles, the artsy community of Chemainus, Coombs Country Market, Little Qualicum Falls and Cathedral Grove giant forest, arriving in the Tofino area late in the afternoon.

Day 7: Today we’ll take an included whale-watching excursion that culminates in Hot Springs Cove. We may see a wide variety of sea life along the way. At Hot Springs Cove, we relax in the soothing hot mineral waters as ocean waves surge up to meet us. A true bucket list experience.

Day 8: There are many options to enjoy today in Tofino, including sea kayaking and canoeing, hiking coastal or forest trails, visiting galleries, surfing or SUP on Long Beach, or simply filling your camera with post-card perfect photos.

Day 9: We journey back across the to Parksville. This afternoon we’ll become spelunkers, enjoying the delights of the Horne Lake Caves, followed by some free time that could include relaxing on Rathtrevor Beach

Day 10: We cross the ferry back to the British Columbia mainland, enjoying a tour of world famous Stanley Park on our arrival back in Vancouver.
